Day 20 2:45 PM

Things are still about the same with Brent today. He is heavily sedated, there are times we believe he hears us talking and at times makes hand gestures (a thumbs up) when we say things to him. We still see the positive attitude in Brent, he has always been an extremely upbeat and positive person!

Brent still has the ventilator in to help his lung to heal. All his vital signs are now strong. It is our understanding he is to have another "Broncoscopy" this afternoon, to further clean his lung. The last news on further surgery is they plan to do the shoulder surgery this coming Monday morning. We have met with the doctors and the following needs to be accomplished.

(The nurse just called Kathy and they are doing the Broncoscopy now) 3:00 PM

We ask that you pray for the following;

Blood cultures to be free from infection. The infection and fever is what stopped the left shoulder surgery on Monday the 17th.

The lung needs to clear and be free of fluid.

The neurologist needs to make the determination on the screw in Brent's spine.

Brent's peace and comfort.

We continue to be bless with support, it's amazing that people we didn't know a few weeks ago have now become such a large part of our family. I am continually amazed that Kathy and I are 900 miles from our "home" but it seems like we have come "home". Our family has definitely made many life long friends!

Thank you so much for you prayers and support.

Pete, Kathy & Brent and family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you constantly! You are such an encouragement to all of us during this time of trial. We feel for you as parents having to see your son suffer so much and coming so close to losing him. We feel for Brent as we have had numerous surgeries and know what it does to the body. Through all this though we have seen God working directly in our lives all over the world. Don is here today because of prayer. The doctor (an elder in the church} told me it was only God's healing that brought him through the purforated ulcer. We know that God will heal Brent and that he can continue to serve Him.
Prayer is a powerful thing.

We love you all more everyday. So happy that you have found more family up there and feel at home.

Love, Don & Mary

our precious friends...words are hard to find at such a time as this.
know that if we were there we would sit quietly and just "be there"...to listen, to give a hug or gently hold your hand, just to be a friend.
we pray healing and strength.
please know we love you and miss you all...I know you do.

There is not a day that goes by that we do not think of you guys and what Brent is going through. We had a special prayer for Brent last night at Wednesday night service. We are in constant prayer for Brent. Our God is the great physician and he is in control. Just know that you have a great support team in Florida praying for you every minute of the day.

Of course we pray for healing, but your remarkable faith speaks much about who you guys are and even more about your finding our God trustworthy even in times like this.

Only a God as great as ours could hold you in his hands and give you the faith to say,as you frequently have said, "Even if he does not heal, still we will trust him!"
Only our God could let you guys look at what you look at and still trust him.

Jim McGuiggan wrote the following to a very ill young lady. I hope his words give you comfort.

“A battle is being waged here
in plain sight against disease, depression, weariness and disappointment for all to see.
But that's only a token of what
is going on beyond, where the
eye can't see and the taut nerves can't feel. It didn't matter that Job didn't know that he was fighting God's battle for him—
it was true just the same. Cosmic and profound things were hanging
in the balance. And it doesn't matter that you and yours think you’re not in the Joban league;
you are, and you too are fighting God's battle for him against all the forces of cynicism and darkness. Against all the voices and powers that say there is no true human faith, that God is loved only when he pours out blessings as bribes. Something bigger than a wrestle with disease and fear and pain is going on; this I believe.
Take some of the energy you daily summon to resist the disease and focus on the glory of your faith --even though it's yourself--on whom God has risked his reputation.”

Wish I had said that.

To say more than we love you and admire you would detract from what Jim wrote.

Dear, dear family (my new family!)-
I am reminded of a passage in Isaiah 40 that I pray today brings you God's assurance and strenth:

Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
